Background Checks

An official background or records check in Indiana is used by employers, landlords, owners of care facilities, licensure and for many other reasons. Official background checks are processed by the sheriff’s office and are restricted to records generated by this agency ONLY.  Indiana uses several different types of background checks depending on circumstances, and some applicants to jobs in Indiana will also be required to undergo a federal background check.

In person background checks can be completed at the sheriff’s office on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday between the hours of 8am to 4pm excluding (12pm-1pm).

Upon coming to the office please ensure you have the following information with you:

  • Valid Indiana Identification Card or Valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Aware of your Social Security Number

Remember our agency background checks contain only records associated with this agency. Records from other agencies must be obtained directly from that agency.
