**Hiring Merit Deputy - Lateral process ONLY**

Beginning December 7th, the Vigo County Sheriff's Office is opening a lateral hiring process for merit deputies. This process is ONLY open to current or active Indiana law enforcement officers/deputies who are ILEA certified and up to date on state required training.

The hiring process will include:
•Application submission
(By December 31, 2023 via vigocounty.in.gov under employment tab or visit our website vigosheriff.in.gov)
•Background investigation
•Peer board interview
•Administrative interview
•Merit board interview

DEPUTY SHERIFF SALARY/BENEFITS:
$57,000 Starting salary

Longevity increase of .0125% of base pay, years 2 to 21 of service

$2,150 yearly clothing allowance

Take-home vehicle within first 90 days

Vacation days max out at 25 days after 15yrs of service

RETIREMENT:
% based pension on average of highest 3 years' salary

Vested at 25% after 10yrs of service

We would like to offer recognition to our patrol division as the year winds down. Our patrol division works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, holidays and weekends serving our community. As of December 4th they have responded to 20,292 calls. We thank them for their continued dedication and service to Vigo County residents.
