Online Police Report

Welcome to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department's Online Police Report Form. The purpose of this form is to allow citizens to conveniently file police reports from home, work, or anywhere with Internet access.

This web site should never be used to report an emergency, a crime in progress, or any type of injury. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For any other situation that requires the response of a deputy, call 812-232-3802 x 1.

You CAN NOT file a report if:

  • This is an Emergency. (Please call 911)
  • This is a Motor Vehicle Accident.
  • This incident occurred INSIDE the Terre Haute or West Terre Haute City limits.
  • You are reporting a theft offense, and the value of the stolen property is more than $1000.
  • You are reporting a theft offense, and the stolen property is a firearm (gun), license plates, a stolen motor vehicle, or hazardous material.
  • You are reporting Property Destruction, and the damage is valued at more than $1000.
  • There is evidence to indicate that this is a hate crime or bias related.
  • There is any physical evidence connected to the crime that needs to be collected (i.e. blood, obvious fingerprints).
  • You do not have a valid email address.
  • You are not the actual victim of the incidents listed above.
  • Any injuries have occurred as a result of this crime.

If you answered “Yes” to any of the above statements, you CANNOT file your report online; you must call central dispatch (812-232-3801 x 1) to have a deputy take your report.

 

Using the sheriff’s office Police Online Reporting System, you can report the following incidents:

Fraud

Wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

Billing for services not provided, billing for work already completed, investment schemes.

Phone Harassment

Unwanted phone calls of an annoying, harassing or threatening nature. Repeated Hang-ups

Immediate hang-ups, obscene language, etc. with no known suspects.

Identity Theft

Obtaining someone else's personal identifying information and using it to obtain credit, goods or services. Stealing your identity

Someone obtains a credit card using your S.S.N. or obtains phone service using your personal information.

Lost Property

When property is missing or lost.

Property that is missing, leaving items in restaurant, or missing from home.

Property Damage (Accidental)

Minor property damage which is not criminal in nature under $1000 loss.
(Does not include vehicle crashes)

Damage of personal property without criminal intent.

Theft (Non-Vehicle)

Less than $1000.00

Your property is taken or attempted to be taken without your permission.
(Other than forced entry into property)

Property known to be stolen, or attempted to be stolen may be reported. Stolen bicycles, lawn furniture, tools, etc.

Theft

(Gas drive-off)

Property (fuel) is stolen from a service station, convenience store etc.

Shopper adds fuel to automobile tank, portable container, etc., and leaves business without making payment.

Vandalism

Less than $1000.00

The intentional act of changing, modifying or defacing public or private property.

Graffiti, knocking over mail box, throwing rock through windows, etc.

Violation of a Protective Order

(Not in progress)

A protective order is a civil suit not connected to any other type of case. Violation of a protective order is a crime. In Indiana, violating a protective order is listed as the crime of Invasion of Privacy, but it can also be part of other crimes such as stalking. 

The Respondent is prohibited from harassing, annoying, telephoning, contacting, or directly or indirectly communicating with the Petitioner.

 

 Upon completion:

  • All police reports filed online will be reviewed by Sheriff’s Office Personnel before being accepted by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Once your online report has been approved by the sheriff’s office, and you have provided a valid email address, you will receive a permanent case number and a .pdf copy as an attachment by email within approximately five business days.
  • Upon review, if further investigation of your case is needed, you may be contacted.

  • FILING A FALSE POLICE REPORT IS A CRIME.
