Sheriff Sales

A Sheriff Sale is the result of a court ordered bank foreclosure for the non-payment of a mortgage. SRI is now conducting the Vigo County Sheriff Sales on line ONLY. This type of sale should not be confused with ‘tax sales’ which are held by the Treasurer’s Office for non-payment of real estate taxes.

AFTER THE SALE

Once you have purchased a piece of property, if the property is still occupied and you need the Sheriff’s assistance in removing the occupants, you must file for a WRIT OF ASSISTANCE, through the court who issued the mortgage foreclosure. Once an order is issued by the court to the sheriff’s office, the plaintiff should contact the sheriff’s office to arrange a “lock-out” date. Upon execution of the Writ of Assistance the sheriff’s office will stand by while you secure the property. The sheriff’s office cannot execute a writ without the plaintiff or their representative present for the lock-out.
